Over time, the glass or plastic lenses on headlights become foggy or cloudy, which interferes with the intensity of the light emitted. But, vehicle owners may restore the lenses easily using a few simple techniques.

Rub toothpaste onto the lenses with a toothbrush. A rotary buffer tool enables deeper cleaning with less exertion. Continue rubbing the toothpaste over each lens to clean. Spray the lenses with warm water to remove the toothpaste and buff with a clean, dry cloth. Repeat if necessary.

Restoration kits are another option and are readily available anywhere automotive accessories are sold. First, clean the lenses with soap and water. Rinse and dry. Apply painters or masking tape around the outside borders of the lenses. Make the tape border a couple of inches wide to ensure protecting the body’s finish.

Wet the lenses. Sand, polish, and wax the lenses according to the kit’s instructions. Apply the UV sealant according to directions.
